Happy New Year . . . and another false prophet is exposed.

1, December 31, 2007

pat-robertson.jpg Happy New Year . . . not so much for Pat Robertson, though.

Now that 2007 has passed, so has Pat Robertson’s credibility–if he’s even had any left after endorsing a pro-homosexual, pro-abortion candidate for president (see this post and this post).

When he’s not endorsing presidential candidates that he has no business endorsing, he’s madly uttering false prophecies like a pre-1975 Jehovah’s Witness! Watch Pat Robertson in 2006 make his prophecies for 2007 (that failed to come to pass) in the video on this link.

Here’s some of the exchange from this video between Robertson and his co-host on the 700 Club:

Pat Robertson: “I have a relatively good track record, sometimes I’ve missed but–”

Terry Meeuwsen: [Interrupts] And without doubt every year as you seek God, I guess this is His promise to all of us, but as you go away and seek Him for the coming year God shows you some amazing things.”

No Terry, he has uttered presumptuously in the name of God things that have not come to pass. According to Deuteronomy 18:20-22 this means he’s met the criteria of a false prophet. He’s admitted to being a false prophet and you have glossed over that.

If I expose Mormonism for their false prophecies (like these from Joseph Smith) and Jehovah’s Witnesses for their false prophecies (like here, and here, and here, and here) then I would be a dishonest hypocrite to ignore or give a pass to Pat Robertson for his false prophecies!

In the above linked video he announced that in 2007:

It would bea year of extraordinary miracles.

It’s going to “seem to the people like Heaven has come down to earth.”

“There will be some very serious terrorist attacks.”

“There’s a possibility that–not a possibility, a definite certainty that chaos is going to rule.”

“It’s going to happen, and I’m not saying necessarily nuclear, the Lord didn’t say nuclear, but I do believe it will be something like that. That’ll be mass killing, possibility millions of people, major cities injured.”

“We should expect miracles beyond our wildest fantasies in the first six months, and after, then chaotic.”

Read the Scripture for yourself Terry:

But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die. You may say in your heart, “How will we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?” When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

Deuteronomy 18:20-22

For additional, check out this article. And in this video Pat Robertson even uses a dry erase board to further his point that “something big” is about to happen.

piper-pic.jpg This is the meaning of the word “propitiation” in . . . Romans 3:25. It refers to the removal of God’s wrath by providing a substitute. The substitute is provided by God Himself. The substitute, Jesus Christ, does not just cancel the wrath; He adsorbs it and diverts it from us to Himself. God’s wrath is just, and it was spent, not withdrawn.

A shocking realization if Mormon Mitt Romney becomes president.

1, December 31, 2007

blood-atonement.jpg

It doesn’t matter to me whether or not a Mormon is elected to the office of president. If an active member of a cult is the leader of our country, how much more harm can he bestow upon our nation that Bill Clinton didn’t do or that Hillary Clinton couldn’t do? The country will get the president it deserves and my hope is in God, not the government. Personally, I think the best thing for the Church in this country is for the worst president to be elected. But I’ll save that for a later post.

Pondering a Romney presidency, I realized that there is potential for some pretty heinous activity to take place if elected. You see, the Mormon Doctrine of Blood Atonement calls for the murder of those who commit sins that the blood of Christ cannot cleanse. To learn more about about this blasphemous anti-Christian doctrine, see my two previous posts on the subject here and here.

As you can imagine, this doctrine–introduced by the early leaders of Mormonism–didn’t go over so well with those who weren’t Mormons (and even some who were), so the mainstream LDS organization has distanced itself from this awful teaching much like they’ve done with other Mormon doctrines like racism and polygamy (more on those in coming posts).

One of the excuses forwarded by the LDS organization to candy-coat the Blood Atonement Doctrine was to say that it could only be practiced when the power of the government and the power of the church are in the same hands.

“This doctrine can only be practiced in its fulness [sic] in a day when the civil and ecclesiastical laws are administered in the same hands. It was, for instance, practiced in the days of Moses, but it was not and could not be practiced in this dispensation . . .” Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, Page 93, 1966 edition.

Mormons fail to realize that this was exactly the situation when Brigham Young was the governor of Utah.

Now consider this: If Mitt Romney is elected president then the civil and ecclesiastical laws will be in the same hands: the hands of the Mormons organization. And we saw what occurred last time this happened.

Am I suggesting that if Mitt Romney is elected president that Blood Atonement will be re-instituted by the LDS organization? No. I believe that Mormons have worked too hard to look, sound, and act like Christians (the very Christians they consider apostate heathens) to ever do anything to jeopardize their new mainstream image. But you have to admit it is certainly a very interesting thing to ponder.

1, December 30, 2007

john-macarthur.jpg If church history teaches us anything, it teaches us that the most devastating assaults on the faith have always begun as subtle errors arising from inside the body itself. Living in an unstable age, the church cannot afford to be vacillating. We minister to people desperate for answers, and we cannot soft-pedal the truth or extenuate the gospel. If we make friends with the world, we set ourselves at enmity with God. If we trust worldly devices, we automatically relinquish the power of the Holy Spirit.

First kick-boxing, now belly dancing?

1, December 30, 2007

belly-dancers.jpg You’ve seen the vain efforts that this church went through to increase membership with their grand idea to host kick-boxing classes instead of Bible study, worship, breaking of bread, and any of the other “archaic” early church practices. Now here’s a church allowing its facility to be used for belly dancing classes.

martin-lloyd-jones.jpg Our Lord attracted sinners because He was different. They drew near to Him because they felt that there was something different about Him. . . . The Pope’s exorcist squads to wage war on Satan.

1, December 29, 2007

ghostbusters-1.jpg The Pope will unleash his exorcist squads to wage against Satan! Read the short article by clicking here. Of course, the Vatican is now denying this.

One of my favorite quotes fromt he article:
He said the Pope wants to restore a prayer seen as protection against evil that was traditionally recited at the end of Catholic Masses. The prayer, to St Michael the Archangel, was dropped in the 1960s by Pope John XXIII.”The prayer is useful not only for priests but also for lay people in helping to fight demons,” he said.

They’re still so steeped in superstition thinking reciting a certain prayer protects against evil. And since when did Michael the Archangel become a Saint?

Mormon distributor “Deseret Book” now selling Joel Osteen’s “Become a Better You.”

1, December 28, 2007

joseph-smith.jpgjoel-osteen-pic.jpg

How bad can Joel Osteen’s watered-down, candy-coated, version of the gospel be? So bad that it’s being sold to Mormons by Mormons!

Joel Osteen’s “gospel” is so far from biblical orthodox Christianity that the Mormon distributor Deseret Books feels Become a Better You is safe enough to sell to Mormons.

Congratulations Joel: You have successfully perverted the gospel so much that it’s now palatable to Mormons.

Here’s the link.

Quotes (104)

1, December 28, 2007

john-macarthur.jpg Some church leaders evidently think the four priorities of the early church–the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer (Acts 2:42)–make a lame agenda for the church in this day and age. Churches are allowing drama, music, recreation, entertainment, self-help programs, and similar enterprises to eclipse traditional Sunday worship and fellowship. In fact, everything seems to be in fashion in the church today except biblical preaching. The new pragmatism sees preaching–particularly expository preaching–as passé.

piper-pic.jpg Therefore sin is not small, because it is not against a small Sovereign. The seriousness of an insult rises with the dignity of the one insulted. Joel Osteen says Mormons are true Christians.

1, December 27, 2007

Recently Joel Osteen on a Fox News interview was asked if a Mormon is “a true Christian.” Of course Osteen falls back on his feelings (not the foundational Word of God that never changes) and says, “Well, in my mind they are.”

You can watch the interview video here and read more about it on Apprising Ministries.

All this may remind you of video I posted back in October in which Joel Osteen claims that he and Mormon Mitt Romney believe in the same Jesus. If you haven’t seen it, you can check it out here.

Just to whet your whistle, I’ve included my own example below:

God is preparing you for greater things. He’s going to take you further than you thought possible, so don’t be surprised when He asks you to think better of yourself and to act accordingly. - Joel Osteen

I’m not troubled in my heart about your self esteem. I’m not troubled in my heart about whether or not you feel good about yourself; whether life is turning out the way you wanted it to turn out, or whether or not your checkbook is balanced. There’s only one thing that gave me a sleepless night. There’s only one thing that troubled me all throughout the morning, and that is this: Within a hundred years a great majority of people in this building will possibly be in hell. - Paul Washer

Which is your preferred Bible translation?

1, December 25, 2007

bibles-stack.jpg Back in October I asked the question “What is your favorite Bible translation and why?” (See the post and comments by clicking here). With the increase in readership since then, I’d like to revisit the question. I’ve also added an audio clip from the Albert Mohler Program on the topic of which translation is best. Just click here to listen to the 26-minute discussion.

Additionally, I never divulged my preferred translation. So what better time than now? I prefer the New American Standard Bible (and use it for those posts in my Sola Scriptura category and anytime I quote the Bible on this blog unless otherwise noted). I also have in my library the ESV, KJV, NKJV, NIV, RSV, NCV, and The Message (just for laughs). I do all my studying and work from the NASB and prefer it.

Recognizing the 202nd birthday of Joseph Smith by posting some of his false prophecies.

1, December 22, 2007

it-all-started-with-a-rock-in-a-hat.jpg

To recognize the 202nd birthday of Mormon Prophet Joseph Smith (December 23, 1805), Reformation Nation has decided to post some of his prophecies; because surely, a true prophet of God would not utter false prophecies.

The Return of Christ in Smith’s Generation

Among the number, my father presented himself, but before I washed his feet, I asked of him a father’s blessing, which he granted by laying his hands upon my head, in the name of Jesus Christ, and declaring that I should continue in the Priest’s office until Christ comes. Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Volume 1, Page 323, January 23, 1833

I prophesy in the name of the Lord God, and let it be written—the Son of Man will not come in the clouds of heaven till I am eighty five years old. Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Volume 5, Page 336, February 14, 1835

President Smith then stated that the meeting had been called, because God had commanded it; and it was made known to him by vision and by the Holy Spirit. . . . Go forth to prune the vineyard for the last time, or the coming of the Lord, which was nigh—even fifty-six years should wind up the scene. Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Volume 2, Page 182, February 14, 1835

On the 14th of Feb.1835, Joseph Smith said that God had revealed to him that the coming of Christ would be within 56 years, which added to 1835 shows that before 1891 and the 14th of Feb. the Savior of the world would make his appearance again upon the earth and the winding up scene take place. Oliver B. Huntington, Journal of Oliver B. Huntington, Volume 2, Pages 128-129

The Spirit of the Lord fell upon Joseph in the usual manner . . . . After he had prophesied he laid his hands upon Lyman Wight and ordained him to the High Priesthood [i.e. ordained him a High Priest ], after the holy order of God. And the Spirit fell on upon Lyman, and he prophesied concerning the coming of Christ. He said that there were some in the congregation that should live until the Savior should descend from heaven with a shout, with all the holy angels with Him. John Witmer, History of the Church, Volume 1, Page 176, June 1831

Smith’s Perceived Invincibility

I prophesy and bear record this morning that all the combined powers of earth and hell shall not and cannot ever overthrow or overcome this boy, for I have a promise from the eternal God. Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Volume 5, Page 554, August 27, 1843 (Joseph Smith was killed less than a year later on June 27, 1844).

I defy all the world to destroy the work of God; and I prophesy they never will have power to kill me till my work is accomplished, and I am ready to die. Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Volume 6, Page 58, October 15, 1843 (Joseph Smith was killed less than a year later on June 27, 1844).

I cannot lie down until all my work is finished. Joseph Smith, Journal of Discourses, Volume 6, Page 11, 1844

America

And now I am prepared to say by the authority of Jesus Christ, that not many years shall pass away before the United States shall present such a scene of bloodshed as has not a parallel in the history of our nation; pestilence, hail, famine, and earthquake will sweep the wicked of this generation from off the face of the land, to open and prepare the way for the return of the lost tribes of Israel from the north country. . . . Therefore I declare unto you the warning which the Lord has commanded to declare unto this generation, remembering that the eyes of my Maker are upon me, and that to him I am accountable for every word I say. Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Volume 1, Page 315, January 4, 1833

I prophesy in the name of the Lord God of Israel, anguish and wrath and tribulation and the withdrawing of the Spirit of God from the earth await this generation, until they are visited with utter desolation. Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Volume 6, Page 58, October 15, 1843

I prophesy in the name of the Lord God of Israel, unless the United States redress the wrongs committed upon the Saints in the state of Missouri and punish the crimes committed by her officers that in a few years the government will be utterly overthrown and wasted, and there will not be so much as a potsherd left . . . Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Volume 5, Page 394, May 18, 1843

Missouri Temple

Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city of New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, even the place of the temple, which temple shall be reared in this generation. For verily this generation shall not all pass away until an house shall be built unto the Lord, and a cloud shall rest upon it, which cloud shall be even the glory of the Lord, which shall fill the house. Joseph Smith, Doctrine and Covenants 84:4-5, September 1832

To be in readiness to move into Jackson county in two years from the eleventh of September next, which is the appointed time for the redemption of Zion. Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Volume 2, Page 145, August 16, 1834

Miscellaneous

Verily thus saith the Lord: It is wisdom in my servant David W. Patten, that he settle up all his business as soon as he possibly can, and make a disposition of his merchandise, that he may perform a mission unto me next spring, in the company with others, even twelve including himself, to testify of my name and bear glad tidings unto all the world. Joseph Smith, Doctrine and Covenants 114:1, April 17, 1838 (David W. Patten died well before “next spring.” He was killed only six months after this prophecy was made. He died on October, 25, 1838 in the Battle of Crooked River).

And again, I say unto you, I remember my servant Oliver Granger; behold, verily I say unto him that his name shall be had in sacred remembrance from generation to generation, forever and ever, saith the Lord. Joseph Smith, Doctrine and Covenants 117:12, July 8, 1838. (Oliver who?)

Reformation Nation will now take this opportunity to be a good Berean and see what the Scriptures say about a prophet who speaks falsely. For it is written:

But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die. You may say in your heart, “How will we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?” When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

Deuteronomy 18:20-22

Quotes (101)

1, December 22, 2007

tozer.jpg This is not a mere metaphor, but an accurate analysis of our real spiritual trouble. There is within the human heart a tough fibrous root of fallen life whose nature is to possess, always to possess. It covets “things” with a deep and fierce passion. The pronouns “my” and “mine” look innocent enough in print, but their constant and universal use is significant. They express the real nature of the old Adamic man better than a thousand volumes of theology could do. They are verbal symptoms of our deep disease. The roots of our hearts have grown down into things, and we dare not pull up one rootlet lest we die. Things have become necessary to us, a development never originally intended. God’s gifts now take the place of God, and the whole course of nature is upset by the monstrous substitution.

Quotes (100)

1, December 22, 2007

ryle.jpg    Shall we say that we have done our duty to God? Shall we say that we have done our duty to our neighbor? Shall we bring forward our prayers?—our regularity?—our amendments?—our churchgoing?—Shall we ask to be accepted because of any of these? Which of these things will stand the searching inspection of God’s eye? Which of them will actually justify us? Which of them will carry us clear through judgment, and land us safe in glory?

None, none, none! Take any commandment of the ten, and let us examine ourselves by it. We have broken it repeatedly. We cannot answer God one of a thousand. Take any of us and look narrowly into our ways—and we are nothing but sinners. There is but one verdict: we are all guilty—all deserve hell—all ought to die. Where-with can we come before God?

We must come in the name of Jesus, standing on no other ground, pleading no other plea than this: “Christ died on the cross for the ungodly, and I trust in Him. Christ died for me, and I believe on Him.”

Quotes (99)

1, December 21, 2007

john-macarthur.jpg An overpowering surge of ardent pragmatism is sweeping through evangelicalism. Traditional methodology–most notably preaching–is being discarded or downplayed in favor of newer means, such as drama, dance, comedy, variety, side-show histrionics, pop-psychology, and other entertainment forms. The new methods supposedly are more “effective”–that is, they draw a bigger crowd. And since for many the chief criterion for gauging the success of a church has become attendance figures, whatever pulls in the most people is accepted without critical analysis as good.

Come to church . . . win a TV!

1, December 19, 2007

Are you a pastor struggling to boost your church attendance so you can brag about it at your next pastors convention?

Tried all the other means of growing your church like watering down the gospel, and still haven’t been invited on Larry King Live?

Well try this approach: Seattle Baptist Church recently offered two great incentives to get the “unchurched” into church.

1). Come hear a Christian millionaire speak. (Like they can’t do that from home watching TBN).

2). Offer them a chance to win one of two Panasonic 52″ LCD flat screen televisions.

The Jesus of Mormonism was not born in Bethlehem.

1, December 19, 2007

farms-apologies.jpg

If someone prophesied my birthplace as being New Jersey but I was actually born in New York, would they have been wrong?

If someone prophesied my birthplace as being Ft. Lauderdale but I was actually born in Miami, would they have been in error?

If someone prophesied my birthplace as being San Francisco, but I was actually born in Oakland, would that be a false prophecy?

Any reasonable person using any degree of logic (and, if necessary, a map) would say, “Of course, you’re wrong on all three occasions.”

What if someone prophesied Jesus was to be born in Jerusalem, only for Him to be born in Bethlehem? This is exactly what Mormonism has done. Mormons follow a Jesus so foreign to the Bible–so different from the real Jesus Christ–that their Jesus wasn’t even born in the same place.

And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God. Alma 7:10 Book of Mormon

You would have to apply the same standards and reasoning to this as you did the other examples. Dare I suggest that Alma 7:10 be corrected, making this change number 3,914 to the Book of Mormon?

Quotes (97)

1, December 18, 2007

ryle.jpg   There are two ways of coming down from the top of a ladder; one is to jump down, and the other is to come down by the steps: but both will lead you to the bottom. So also there are two ways of going to Hell; one is to walk into it with your eyes open–few people do that; the other is to go down by the steps of little sins–and that way, I fear, is only too common. Put up with a few little sins, and you will soon want a few more. . . . Jeremy Taylor very clearly described the progress of sin in a man: “First it startles him, then it becomes pleasing, then easy, then delightful, then frequent, then habitual, then a way of life! Then the man feels no guilt, then obstinate, then resolves never to repent, and then he is damned.”

Men have now by nature no peace within their hearts, for God is crowned there no longer, but there in the moral dusk stubborn and aggressive usurpers fight among themselves for first place on the throne.

Oh Amy Grant, what have you become?

Contemporary Christian Music recording artist Amy Grant is receiving her star on Hollywood’s walk of fame in this clip. But not all is at it seems. Amy Grant utters something that may come as a shock to some (hopefully many).

Skip ahead to 8:00 minutes and begin listening from there. Her comment hits at exactly 8 minutes and 21 seconds. And what’s equally disappointing is the reaction of the crowd.

Amy, did you not care about the children that were in attendance? Did you not care about the influence of your behavior and immodest dress on those who look up to you? Did you not care about the example you set for the Savior that you claim to represent?
